COSMETICS: GLOBAL REGULATORY ALIGNMENT

Non-Animal Cosmetics Safety - AFSA

Supporting animal-free innovation in the beauty sector

We’re driving a global move away from animal testing for cosmetics – championing legal reforms, and have developed a first-of-its-kind master class in animal-free safety assessment to build awareness and confidence in new scientific approaches to consumer protection.

Cruelty-free beauty is rapidly becoming mainstream globally, driven in large part by the #BeCrueltyFree campaign spearheaded by Humane Society International, the Humane Society of the United States, our national affiliates and partners, in coordination with corporate members of the AFSA Collaboration.

Forty-five countries have banned animal testing for cosmetics – this practice is now outlawed in all major beauty markets worldwide. We believe that consumers should be able to purchase a cosmetic product anywhere in the world and be confident that it is safe to use, and free from any new animal testing.

The #BeCrueltyFree campaign was instrumental in driving the European Union to become the world’s largest cruelty-free cosmetics market, and in securing similar victories in India, Taiwan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Guatemala, Switzerland, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Chile and eleven US states.
